Tiffany", "T000165", "tiffany.house.gov", "tiffany", "https://tiffany.house.gov/media/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 Today, Congressman Tom Tiffany (WI-07) announced the introduction of H.R. 8714, theAlien Criminal Expulsion Act or \u201cACE Act.\u201d This legislation would temporarily halt the issuance of immigrant and non-immigrant visas in \u201crecalcitrant\u201d countries \u2013 a term used to describe foreign nations whose governments refuse to accept the return of their citizens who commit criminal acts, overstay their visas, or otherwise violate U.S. laws. The issue came into sharper focus earlier this month amid news reports that Communist China hasstopped cooperating with U.S. deportation efforts.\n\n\u201cFor years, Beijing has impeded our ability to send their criminal aliens home \u2013 effectively treating our country as a dumping ground for their nationals who break American laws,\u201dsaid Congressman Tiffany. \u201cIt makes no sense to continue granting visas to citizens of Communist China knowing that we may never be able to remove them should they overstay or commit crimes in our communities.\u201d\n\nCommunist China\u2019s government issued a formal statement on August 5, 2022, explicitly announcing that they were \u201c[s]uspending China-U.S. cooperation on the repatriation of illegal immigrants.\u201d More than two weeks later, the announcement remains publicly posted on theForeign Ministry\u2019s website.\n\nAn existing provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act known asSection 243(d) already stipulates that the Secretary of State\u201cshall order consular officers\u2026to discontinue granting immigrant visas or nonimmigrant visas\u201d in any country that\u201cdenies or unreasonably delays accepting an alien who is a citizen, subject, national, or resident of that country.\u201d Tiffany\u2019s bill would enhance this sanction by mandating the suspension of both classes of visas.\n\n\u201cOnce again, the Biden administration is refusing to enforce a plainly worded provision of our immigration law,\u201dTiffany said. \u201cChina\u2019s rulers aren\u2019t even pretending anymore \u2013 so what exactly is the Biden administration waiting for?\u201d\n\nA summary of H.R. 8714 canbe found here and more information canbe found here.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T02:59:24Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://tiffany.house.gov/media/press-releases/tiffany-introduces-legislation-suspend-us-visas-recalcitrant-countries"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.6047561075538397, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
