Crater, Sr. (D-LA) released the following statement:\n\n\u201cOnce again, we find ourselves on the brink of war\u2014launched not by Congressional consensus, but by executive proclamation. President Trump\u2019s unilateral strikes on Iranian nuclear sites\u2014no matter how provocative the target\u2014constitute a clear violation of Article I, Section 8 of the United States Constitution, which gives Congress\u2014not the President\u2014the sole authority to declare war.\n\n\u201cLet me be clear: I strongly oppose Iran\u2019s pursuit of nuclear weapons. The international community must remain vigilant and united in preventing nuclear proliferation. But even in moments of great tension, we cannot abandon the bedrock principles of our democracy.\n\n\u201cLaunching military attacks without Congressional authorization not only endangers global stability\u2014it undermines the very Constitution we are sworn to uphold. We cannot preserve peace abroad while shredding our founding document at home.\n\n\u201cNow is the time for measured diplomacy, not impulsive escalation. We must demand answers. We must restore balance.
