The FY23 NDAA outlines a $858 billion military budget, an increase of $45 billion over the President\u2019s request. The NDAA authorizes funding for all discretionary military programs and activities \u2013 including personnel, operations, maintenance, procurement, research, and development. It also outlines critical policies and directives for the Department of Defense.\n\n\u201cIn Congress, my most important duty is ensuring the safety of all Americans, including my constituents in the Central Valley,\u201d said Congressman Valadao. \u201cThis year\u2019s defense bill provides a robust budget to counteract the damaging impacts of inflation on our Department of Defense and military families, including a 4.6% pay raise for our troops. I\u2019m proud to support this bipartisan effort to provide our military with the equipment, resources, and training needed to effectively defend the United States against our adversaries.\u201d\n\nAmong other provisions, the FY23 NDAA:\n\nAuthorizes a 4.6% pay increase for servicemembers\n\nRescinds the COVID-19 vaccine mandate on all active and reserve component servicemembers.\n\nIncludes an additional $3.8 billion to cover the unbudgeted costs of inflation in ongoing military construction projects.\n\nRequires U.S. bases in Europe to adopt installation energy plans to reduce reliance on Russian energy and sets a goal of eliminating the use of Russian energy entirely.\n\nRequires the DoD, State, and USAID Inspector Generals to regularly carry out comprehensive reviews and audits of assistance provided to Ukraine", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T03:32:05Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://valadao.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=467"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7965178228914738, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
