This month, my top priorities were on full display. I traveled back and forth from Texas to D.C. participating in job training forums and hosting my fifth annual job fair and Veterans Town Hall. I also worked at Airbus Helicopters for my monthly ‘Marc Means Business’ workday.
I invite you to take a moment to read about these efforts and the additional work I do on your behalf to ensure your voice is heard in our nation’s capital.
Please remember to connect with me through my official website, Facebook page, and Twitter account to stay informed on what I am working on in the district and in D.C. Don’t forget to remind your friends to subscribe to my e-newsletter, so they don’t miss out on any updates on my efforts in Washington and in the DFW Metroplex.
Sincerely,
Marc Veasey
Member of Congress
Don’t Miss Tomorrow’s DACA Summit and Immigration Town Hall
Join me, special guest House Democratic Vice-Chair Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, and local immigration experts for a DACA Summit and Immigration Town Hall to discuss the latest developments on the program, learn your rights when interacting with law enforcement, and how the DACA program has affected the DFW Metroplex.
Saturday, December 2, 2017
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Northside Community Center
1100 Northwest 18th Street
Fort Worth, TX 76164

Preparing the Workforce of Tomorrow
As a co-chair of the House Democrats’ Access to Jobs Task Force, I joined business and labor leaders as they shared their expertise on how to strengthen America’s workforce through skill development and training at our first roundtable discussion. I invited Tricia Hiros, an engineer working for Bell Helicopter based in DFW, to testify before the task force on the importance of apprenticeships and Bell Helicopter’s work to encourage Dallas youth to pursue careers in advanced manufacturing.
Congressman Marc Veasey introduces Tricia Hiros of Bell Helicopter, before she shared with the Access to Jobs Task Force the types of outreach efforts her company has engaged in to increase interest in advanced manufacturing careers (November 8, 2017).

For more details on the House Democratic Caucus’ Jobs for America Task Forces, please visit: www.dems.gov/jobsforamerica.

Honoring our Local Veterans
On Friday, November 10, 2017, I honored eight local veterans with the Congressional Veteran Commendation at my annual Veterans Town Hall at American Legion Post 275 in Dallas. Ms. Castella Combs, Ms. Tynetta W. Runnels, Mrs. Tristeza Ordex-Ramirez, Mr. Jonathan Saenz, Mr. Herman Henderson Jr., Mr. Raymond Rivera, Mr. Rogerio Perez, and Mr. Ollis Donald Chalmers were all honored for their military service and continued contributions to the DFW Metroplex. Congratulations to this year’s award recipients and thank you for your service to our country.
Congressman Veasey welcomes TX-33 residents to his Veteran Commendation Ceremony and Veteran Town Hall (November 10, 2017).

Fighting for Good Paying Jobs at Home – Refusing to Raise Taxes on Working Families
On November 16, 2017, I voted against H.R. 1, the Republican Tax Scam bill. The legislation unfairly targeted popular tax deductions that middle-class families, teachers, students and veterans depend on and cut funding to Medicare and Medicaid while enriching the ultra-wealthy with tax cuts.

I attempted to work with Republicans by introducing an amendment that would provide a $500 refundable tax-credit to grandparents acting as primary caregivers and for newly naturalized citizens, but Republicans shut Democrats out throughout the legislative process.

I also highlighted how the Patriot Employer Act that I helped to sponsor this year is actually the type of tax reform this country needs. We need to reward companies who invest right here at home and treat their employees with the respect and dignity they deserve. Instead, Republicans’ tax scam bill does the opposite, leaving the door open for U.S. companies to ship more jobs overseas.
For more information on the Patriot Employer Act and why I voted against the GOP Tax Scam, please visit my website.

Connecting TX-33 Job Seekers to Thousands of Local Jobs
On Friday, November 17, I hosted my 5th Annual 33rd Congressional District Job Fair where I connected 85 companies like Lockheed Martin, Southwest Airlines, and Amazon to hundreds of TX-33 job seekers. I am proud that since launching my annual event I have connected thousands of job seekers to local employers and provided job opportunities through on-site workshops. Workshop attendees were able to learn about skill building and networking, launching a small business, veteran-to-civilian transition, and received one-on-one resume critiquing. I am thankful for all the employers, large and small, that participated in my annual job fair.

Congressman Veasey welcomes Alcon, one of TX-33 major employers, to the fifth annual job fair as they joined 84 additional companies seeking to fill over 7,000 positions (November 17, 2017).
Congressman Veasey’s district staff welcomes local job seekers to his fifth annual job center at Tarrant County South Campus Gymnasium (November 17, 2017).

Reaching for the Sky
After my fifth annual job fair on November 17th, I added yet another large employer to my growing list of ‘Marc Means Business’ workdays by joining the crew of Airbus Helicopter in Grand Prairie. Throughout my workday, I worked with the plant’s team and learned how to conduct quality assurance tests on Airbus’ many helicopters, including how to check gas filters and communications systems. I even participated in a test flight to see firsthand how the helicopter’s electronic systems operate when in the air.
Congressman Marc Veasey holds the tail end of an Airbus helicopter steady as another member of the maintenance team operates the Heli lift to perform routine checks prior to flight. (November 17, 2017).
Congressman Veasey thanks Airbus Helicopters for allowing him to join their maintenance team as part of his November ‘Marc Means Business’ work day (November 17, 2017).", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://veasey.house.gov/media-center/veasey-updates/marcs-memo-november-2017-updates
