Mimi Walters (R-California) announced the winner of the 2017 Congressional App Challenge for California\u2019s 45th Congressional District. The Congressional App Challenge is an annual event to encourage high school students to pursue a career in STEM fields. The winners were selected by a panel of educators in Orange County who specialize in computer science and innovation.\u00a0\nSaid Rep. Walters, \u201cOrange County is home to some of the best and brightest students in our Nation. The Congressional App Challenge highlights the incredible strides that students in the 45th district have made in computer science and mobile technology. I am impressed year after year with the remarkable submissions my office receives.\n\u201cI am proud to announce that this year\u2019s winner is Sishir Giri from Tustin High School, and his app called \u2018Helpindesk.\u2019\u00a0 Shishir, who came in third place in 2016\u2019s Challenge, was able to successfully tackle a common problem for many students \u2013 access to quick and concise answers on subject matter while outside of the classroom.\u00a0\n\u201cI congratulate Shishir, and all who participated in this year\u2019s Challenge, for their incredible work and innovative apps!\u201d\n2017 Congressional App Challenge Winner, Sishir Giri\nSecond place in the 2017 Congressional App Challenge is awarded to Patrick Liu, from University High School in Irvine.\u00a0 His app, iCordisX, is a user-driven data-receiver for personalized cardiac monitoring.\u00a0\nThird place is awarded to the team of Steven Li, Brian Kim, and Michael Yu, of University High School in Irvine.\u00a0 Their app, Easy Planner, compiles numerous methods of mobile scheduling into one easy to use app.\n\u00a0\nWalters represents California\u2019s 45th District and serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://walters.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/congresswoman-mimi-walters-announces-winner-congressional-app-challenge"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5118489973247051, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
