Upon his first election to Congress, Clyburn became the first Black person to represent South Carolina since Reconstruction.\n\n\u201cAs Majority Whip, Clyburn fostered unity in our Caucus, helping House Democrats overcome narrow majorities to pass crucial components of our legislative agenda.
