He will give the $5,287 he earned during the government shutdown caused by the House Majority to Action for Bridgeport Community Development (ABCD), the Carver Foundation in Norwalk, and the Stamford Boys & Girls Club. Each organization will receive $1,762.\n\u201cCongress isn\u2019t working because the House Majority continues to hold even the most basic functions of civilized government hostage to their partisan demands. I felt it was important to give my pay earned during the unnecessary government shutdown the Majority caused to organizations that support the folks who were most vulnerable to the lost services and support during this time,\u201d said Himes. \u201cWhile we cannot undo the damage done by the shutdown, I hope this money will help these organizations continue the vital services they provide.\u201d\n\u201cWe really appreciate Congressman Himes\u2019 donation to the Stamford Boys & Girls Club,\u201d said Michael Cotela, executive director of the Stamford Boys & Girls Club. \u201cThe donation will help us provide youth programs for the children of Stamford.\u201d\nABCD in Bridgeport provides various services to the Bridgeport community, including after-school and summer programs for youths and energy assistance and other financial services for families in need. The Carver Foundation in Norwalk provides educational, social, and recreational programs to children in a safe environment.
