Davis, Vargas, and Peters Fight for Border Improvements to Boost Local Economy", "2013-12-17", "2013", "2013-12", "Democrat", "House", "CA", "Susan Davis", "D000598", "web.archive.org", null, null, "legacy", "Press Release\n            December 17, 2013\n             Reps.\n              Davis, Vargas, and Peters\n              Fight for Border Improvements to Boost Local Economy\n             \n               \n            \n              \n                \n              \n              \u00a0\n              \n                \n              WASHINGTON \u2013\u00a0\n              \n              \n              \n              Congresswoman Susan Davis (CA-53)\n              joined\u00a0Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51) and\n              Congressman Scott Peters\n              (CA-52)\u00a0in urging\u00a0the House Appropriations\n              Committee to fund the San\n              Ysidro Land Port of Entry Renovation and Expansion Project\n              at the President\u2019s\n              FY 2014 Budget level.\n              The United States and Mexico agreed to modernize and\n              expand\n              the San Ysidro Land Port of Entry.\u00a0 Mexico completed\n              their side of the\n              construction and opened the new El Chaparral border\n              station in 2012.\u00a0\n              However,\u00a0construction on the\u00a0U.S. side has been\n              in\u00a0limbo\u00a0due to cuts in infrastructure\n              funding.\u00a0This money would\n              allow Phase II and Phase III of the project to move\n              forward.\n               \"My colleagues and I who represent border districts\n              know how vital this project is to our economy,\" said Rep.\n              Davis.\n              \u00a0\"Delays at the border cost our districts billions of\n              dollars in lost\n              output and tens of thousands of jobs. I hope my colleagues\n              on the\n              Appropriations Committee will recognize the importance of\n              modernizing the San\n              Ysidro Port of Entry and give this project the funding it\n              needs.\"\n               \"The San Ysidro Land Port of Entry Expansion Project is\n              critical to stimulating our region\u2019s economy,\" stated Rep.\n              Vargas, who led the\n              delegation letter.\u00a0 \"The current, outdated port of\n              entry creates delays\n              that result in staggering losses of jobs and\n              revenue.\u00a0 We must invest in\n              infrastructure that will not only spark economic activity,\n              but also create jobs\n              and increase border efficiency.\" \"Completing the San Ysidro Port of Entry Expansion\n              continues\n              to be a top economic priority for me and for our region,\"\n              Rep. Peters said. \"I\n              am proud to work with my San Diego colleagues and the\n              local community to\n              promote this necessary project.
