Today, our northern communities and timber industry are facing tough challenges. Our mills struggle to find enough timber to keep their businesses running at full capacity, and our loggers often find that the trees they harvest from our National Forests are past their prime and have lost their value.\u00a0 Second, third, and fourth generation loggers are concerned that after decades of work in the woods, their children may not be able to continue in the tradition of Wisconsin\u2019s timber industry.  \u00a0  Senator Baldwin has made supporting the timber products industry one of her top priorities. That means supporting the sustainable harvest of timber on our national forest lands, and ensuring that our forests are managed to preserve ecosystems and forest health so these natural assets continue to provide for our communities into the future.   \u00a0  Federal forest policy is important to Wisconsin\u2019s forest industry because of the significant amount of Wisconsin forestland managed by the federal government. Through recent opportunities provided in the current Farm Bill conference negotiations and through her role on the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee, Senator Baldwin is working hard to be an advocate for Wisconsin\u2019s timber industry and forest communities.\n\"I am proud to carry on Wisconsin\u2019s long tradition of protecting our natural resources, promoting conservation of our public lands, and supporting our timber and paper industries.
