{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://web.archive.org/web/20140221102826/http://pearce.house.gov/press-release/pearce-lujan-grisham-commend-forest-service-decision-return-cattle-0", "PEARCE, LUJAN GRISHAM COMMEND FOREST SERVICE DECISION ON RETURN OF CATTLE", "2013-11-07", "2013", "2013-11", "Republican", "House", "NM", "Steve Pearce", "P000588", "web.archive.org", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, DC (November 7, 2013) \u2013 Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce and Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham commended the U.S. Forest Service\u2019s decision to allow ranchers to return cattle to grazing leases on one allotment in the state, and to partner with the New Mexico Range Improvement Task Force to review data to make a decision on the remaining allotments.\n\u201cI commend the U.S. Forest Service on choosing to correct their initial decision, which was not rooted in science,\u201d said Pearce.\u00a0 \u201cReviewing the scientific data and allowing New Mexico\u2019s ranchers to resume grazing on federal land is the right thing to do.\u00a0 This is a step in the right direction, and is the product of considerable bipartisan cooperation among my office, the Forest Service, the New Mexico Range Improvement Task Force at NMSU, the New Mexico Department of Agriculture, the NMSU Cooperative Extension Service, and the office of Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham.\u00a0 I look forward to seeing the remaining ranchers return to their grazing allotments soon.\u00a0 My office is continuing to work closely with the Forest Service and with ranchers on this issue, and stands by to assist New Mexico ranchers in every way we can.\u201d\n\u201cI applaud the U.S. Forest Service\u2019s decision, and am proud to have worked on a bipartisan basis to support New Mexico\u2019s ranchers,\u201d said Lujan Grisham.\u00a0 \u201cWhile the Forest Service reviews the remaining grazing allotments, I will continue to work with partners and agencies at the local, state and federal level to protect this vital aspect of our state\u2019s economy and culture.\u201d\nEarlier this year, ranchers were ordered to remove livestock from grazing allotments due to severe drought conditions.\u00a0 Ranchers raised concerns that the action was arbitrary, and would lead to severe economic hardship.\u00a0 Congressman Pearce has been working with ranchers and the Forest Service to reach a solution to the issue.\u00a0 The Forest Service agreed to work with the New Mexico Range Improvement Task Force to review scientific data on the allotments and determine whether the allotments could continue to support grazing.\u00a0 They have announced that data supports the return of cattle to the first allotment reviewed.\u00a0 A decision on the remaining 17 allotments is expected within the month.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20140221102826/http://pearce.house.gov/press-release/pearce-lujan-grisham-commend-forest-service-decision-return-cattle-0"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.4217329919338226, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
