{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://web.archive.org/web/20140221104352/http://pearce.house.gov/press-release/pearce-%E2%80%9Csupporting-our-troops-means-providing-funding-they-need%E2%80%9D", "Pearce: \u201cSupporting Our Troops Means Providing the Funding they Need\u201d", "2013-07-24", "2013", "2013-07", "Republican", "House", "NM", "Steve Pearce", "P000588", "web.archive.org", null, null, "legacy", "Washington, DC (July 24, 2013) \u2013 Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce voted for H.R. 2397, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2014.\u00a0\n\u201cI spent 3 years in Vietnam,\u201d said Pearce. \u201cDuring that time, I saw Congress cut funding to the war effort and lose faith in the mission, but it felt like Congress and the American people were losing faith in us, the troops.\u00a0 Today\u2019s legislation shows the House\u2019s continued commitment to supporting and protecting our nation\u2019s troops. \u00a0While troops are in harm\u2019s way, we must provide them with the support they need to complete their mission and come home safety.\u00a0 I am proud to say the final bill accomplishes this mission.\n\u201cIn addition to providing our troops with the resources to do their job, today\u2019s legislation cuts billions in waste, and brings accountability to the Defense Department,\u201d Pearce continued.\u00a0 \u201cToday\u2019s bill includes an amendment to protect Americans\u2019 privacy, and limits the NSA\u2019s and other agencies\u2019 ability to collect Americans\u2019 phone records.\u00a0 The bill also prevents military intervention in Syria without Congressional approval, and bars the United States from military intervention in Egypt\u2019s current civil unrest.\u201d\nH.R. 2397 includes $5 billion in savings over the Fiscal Year 2013 enacted budget, and provides for a \u00a0$1.8 percent pay increase for all military personnel.\u00a0 The bill additionally provides $34.5 billion for defense healthcare, including $125 million for TBI and PTSD treatment, and $246 million for cancer research.\u00a0 This annual legislation provides for \u00a0personnel, operation, and maintenance for the Department of Defense for each fiscal year.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20140221104352/http://pearce.house.gov/press-release/pearce-%E2%80%9Csupporting-our-troops-means-providing-funding-they-need%E2%80%9D"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7913480512797832, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
