Rep. Denham nominated 19 students from cities across the district, including Modesto, Newman, Waterford, Turlock, Tracy, Manteca and Ripon to four of the nation’s five prestigious military academies. The nominees are seeking admission to the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. and the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.
“These exceptional young people exhibit great character and dedication to serving our country,” said Rep. Denham. “It is an honor to have the privilege of nominating them to our esteemed military academies. Their desire to join our military forces is inspiring, and I commend each of them for their hard work to reach this point in the process.”
Each student seeking to attend one of these four military academies must be nominated by a U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator or the Vice President. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination to attend. Nominees are selected through a rigorous application and interview process and are chosen based on factors such as academic achievement, leadership ability, physical aptitude, participation in extra-curricular activities and demonstration of character.
Academy students commit to serving in the military for a minimum of five years active duty upon graduation. If accepted to attend, students will receive notice from the individual service academies in April 2014.
For more information about the military academy nomination process, please visit http://denham.house.gov/serving-you/military-academy-nominations.
The full list of this year’s nominees is below.
Kyle Azlin – U.S. Military Academy
Shane Bell – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Daniel Cota – U.S. Naval Academy
Michael Gallagher – U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy
Paul Grimaldo – U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy
Joseph Johnson – U.S. Air Force Academy
Maria Martinez – U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy
John Moody – U.S. Air Force Academy
Marco Neves – U.S. Air Force Academy
Onix Paredes – U.S. Naval Academy
Austin Rice – U.S. Naval Academy
Keegan Rivera – U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy
Alex Rodin – U.S. Air Force Academy
Caleb Rogers – U.S. Naval Academy
Benjamin Smith – U.S. Air Force Academy
Joshua Tam – U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy
Jonas Trevethan – U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Michala Wyrsch – U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy
Lennart Zielke – U.S. Naval Academy", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://web.archive.org/web/20140221165242/http://denham.house.gov/press-release/denham-announces-2013-military-service-academy-nominees
