Johnson connects struggling homeowners with HomeSafe program, HUD-approved counselors \nCONYERS, GA \u2013 More than 100 homeowners participated in Saturday\u2019s HomeSafe Georgia foreclosure prevention event at Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers hosted by Rep. Hank Johnson, along with representatives from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and HUD-approved counseling agency D&E.\nHomeSafe is designed to provide temporary assistance to Georgia homeowners who are able and willing to work but have suffered a substantial income loss due to involuntary unemployment or underemployment.\nThe event also provided opportunities for homeowners to meet with counselors to see if they are eligible for a loan modification.\n\u201cWe want everyone who attended, regardless of their situation, to be armed with knowledge and hope that they need to save their home,\u201d Johnson said from Washington, D.C., where he is dealing with government funding issues this weekend. \u201cThat is our mission and our goal. Don\u2019t\u2019 give up \u2013 see this process through. We want everyone who attended to be optimistic and prayerful that they received the help they needed today.\u201d\nMore than two years ago, Georgia received $340 million from President Obama\u2019s \u201cHardest Hit Fund\u201d\u2013 known as HomeSafe in Georgia \u2013 to help unemployed homeowners avoid foreclosures.\nJohnson said at the time not enough was being done to get the word out and to get the funds where they are needed most. Rep. Johnson has since held four events promoting the HomeSafe GA program.\nRep.
