LoBiondo (NJ-02) today issued the following statement after voting in favor of the Ryan-Murray Bipartisan Budget \u2013 agreed to by Representative Paul Ryan (WI-01) and Senator Patty Murray (WA) - which sets discretionary federal spending for fiscal years 2014 and 2015:\n\u201cWhether it was meeting with members of our Chambers of Commerce, visiting local employers or speaking with county and municipal officials, the message I heard for the past couple of years has been the same: the uncertainty coming from Washington stymies economic growth and job creation. This budget provides the long-term stability and fiscal certainty businesses and local governments have pleaded for. It represents a realistic compromise on discretionary spending levels to ensure military readiness and national security while protecting life-saving research and infrastructure investments from additional cuts. And it prevents another government shutdown while demonstrating Congress\u2019 ability to come together on critical issues for Americans and our economy.\n\u201cAs we look to 2014, it is my sincere hope that the bipartisan spirit and results continue to other critical issues such as deficit reduction, preserving Medicare and Social Security, immigration reform and tax reform. We\u2019ve taken a small, but important first step with this bipartisan budget \u2013 I hope we continue to move in the right direction towards increasing economic growth while decreasing the nation\u2019s $17 trillion debt.\u201d\nThe last budget passed by a divided government \u2013 where Republicans control one chamber of Congress while Democrats control the other - was during President Reagan\u2019s tenure in 1986.
