Chuck loved life, had high ethical and moral standards, and always reflected the best qualities of public service.\u00a0He was a loyal patriot and a truly loyal friend and confidant.\u00a0We spent countless hours driving the state, often into the night, talking together.\u00a0He was the first person named to my Senate staff.\n\u00a0\nChuck was one of the most knowledgeable people, perhaps the most knowledgeable person concerning politics and government in Alabama over the past 25 years.\u00a0Members of our delegation in Congress, friends, office holders, and candidates throughout Alabama regularly sought his opinion and insight.\u00a0His judgment was highly favored.\n\u00a0\nHe loved the practical aspects of politics while being an historian and intellectual. The state staff he supervised loved him and he loved them and was constantly supportive of their work. \u00a0\n\u00a0\nChuck loved his family dearly and they him.\u00a0The constant support, encouragement, and affection Phyllis and the children showed him during this difficult time was inspiring to us all. I join Chuck\u2019s friends across every corner of Alabama mourning the passing of a great man.\u201d\n\u00a0\nBACKGROUND:\nCharles H. \u201cChuck\u201d Spurlock was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his B.A. in History and Religion at Duke University and his M.A. in European History from Vanderbilt University. Chuck was a renowned expert in politics and history and delivered lectures for many organizations throughout the state.\n\u00a0\nMr. Spurlock served as the campaign manager to Sen. Sessions\u2019 bid for Alabama Attorney General and later as his Press Secretary and Legislative Liaison in the Attorney General\u2019s office. He was the Finance Director for Sessions\u2019 first U.S. Senate race and was the first member named to Sen.
