Schneider Announces Support of Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act", "2013-12-19", "2013", "2013-12", "Democrat", "House", "IL", "Brad Schneider", "S001190", "web.archive.org", null, null, "legacy", "U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) announced his\u00a0support for the Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act\u00a0of 2013, which was introduced\u00a0today\u00a0by\u00a026\u00a0Senators,\u00a0including Senators\u00a0Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Bob Menendez (D-NJ),\u00a0and would implement new sanctions on Iran if\u00a0the regime\u00a0breaks the terms of the interim agreement or fails to reach a final agreement.\n\u201cAs the Administration continues to explore a diplomatic solution, we need to send a clear, strong\u00a0message to Iran that the United States is fully committed to implementing additional, punishing economic sanctions if\u00a0Iran\u00a0fails to abide by the\u00a0Joint Plan of Action or refuses to reach a final agreement to permanently end its nuclear weapons programs,\u201d\u00a0Schneider said. \u201cThis bill reinforces and builds on\u00a0the core\u00a0architecture of the\u00a0sanctions regime\u00a0that was successful in bringing Iran to the negotiating table. The goal\u00a0of sanctions and the consequential negotiations\u00a0remains\u00a0reversing and dismantling Iran's nuclear weapons capabilities.\u00a0Iran\u00a0must come\u00a0to the table understanding that negotiations leading to an end to\u00a0its\u00a0nuclear program is the\u00a0one and\u00a0only path to sanctions relief.\u201d\nThe Nuclear Weapon Free Iran Act\u00a0expands the\u00a0breadth and depth of the sanctions\u00a0architecture,\u00a0extending the reach to\u00a0companies, individuals and economic sectors that would be subject to greater sanctions should the Iranian regime fail to implement terms of the Joint Plan of Action (JPA) or attempt to delay negotiations towards a permanent nuclear deal.\nSchneider, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, is a leader in the effort to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He\u00a0helped\u00a0coauthor\u00a0and pass\u00a0new, broader sanctions\u00a0legislation in the House in July,\u00a0and in October, he\u00a0sent a letter, signed\u00a0by 77 of his colleagues, urging the Obama Administration to authorize additional sanctions on Iran.\nEarlier this month, The Israel Qualitative Military Edge Enhancement Act, introduced by Schneider and Rep.
