Hastings (FL-20), and Patrick Murphy (FL-18) to give Palm Beach County officials time beyond the November 30th deadline to submit comments and technical data on flood map proposals for the region. This extension will allow local officials and scientists to continue contributing data and suggestions for the final flood maps, which need to be accurate in order to protect many homeowners from unaffordable flood insurance rates. “Flaws in the preliminary flood maps released by FEMA would hurt Palm Beach County’s economy by saddling homeowners with unaffordable flood insurance rates and reducing consumer spending at local businesses,” said Congressman Ted Deutch. “This extension will help ensure that the flood maps are accurate, the science is sound, and the remapping process is fair.” “Keeping flood insurance affordable is a must for South Florida families,” Congresswoman Lois Frankel said. “Sharp increases in flood insurance rates will continue to be an important issue for Floridians.
