Espinoza, an El Paso native and Korean War veteran.\u00a0 His nephew, Roswell resident Amado \u201cSonny\u201d Espinoza, received the medal on his behalf.\n\u201cThough decades too late, our nation today recognized the incredible courage, bravery, and sacrifice of one of our heroes,\u201d said U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce.\u00a0 \u201cMr. Espinoza\u2019s family should be proud of his valor and heroism.\u00a0 I know his story will be remembered in New Mexico, and his legacy will live on.\u201d\nEspinoza, who passed away in 1986, was awarded the medal today for \u00a0\u201cextraordinary heroism\u201d in a daring assault in Chorwon, Korea, on 1 August 1952.\u00a0 According to the citation for the Distinguished Service Cross, his actions \u201cinspired all who observed him and enabled the unit to continue the assault and to secure the strong point.\u201d", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20140321021817/http://pearce.house.gov/press-release/pearce-delayed-honor-american-hero"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5982810873538256, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
