I cosponsored today\u2019s\u00a0 bill because it puts the power back in the hands of the people by adding a measure of accountability and transparency to the national monument designation process.\u00a0 Hundreds of people in Southern New Mexico stood up, and demanded that the Secretary of the Interior listen to their voice on the Organ Mountains.\u00a0 H.R. 1459 ensures they have a say.\u201d  \n\t\u00a0  \n\tUnder this bill, national monument designations using the Antiquities Act would undergo strong environmental analysis and studies under the National Environmental Policy Act, just like other land management decisions, before a designation could be finalized.\u00a0 Monument designations would be limited in number without approval of Congress.\u00a0 The bill also requires a study of the costs associated with the monument designation.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20140328014744/http://pearce.house.gov/press-release/pearce-votes-transparency-national-monument-designation-process"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7053089793771505, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
