Res. 96, known as the Ryan Budget Resolution.\u00a0 This plan, which establishes a budget framework for the year ahead and spending priorities for the next ten years, balances in 10-years, keeps Medicare as-is for people over age 56, and provides for a strong national defense.\u00a0\n\u201cThe United States is $17 trillion in debt.\u00a0 Continuing to spend and budget the way we currently do is simply unsustainable,\u201d said Pearce.\u00a0 \u201cThe budget passed today provides a commonsense pathway for Congress and the federal government to put our spending and nation back on a sustainable, manageable path.\u00a0 While it will not be easy, it is the path we must take to provide our children and grandchildren with the opportunities that we all have benefited from.\n\u201cLast year, Washington tried to increase spending and raise taxes to promote job growth and energize the economy.\u00a0 It did not work.\u00a0 The budget plan today keeps our promise to seniors, while also protecting the Medicare guarantee for generations to come.\u00a0 Unlike the President\u2019s budget, this budget prioritizes national security, and avoids catastrophic cuts to defense spending. It simplifies the tax code, and provides full funding and benefits to our nation\u2019s veterans.\u00a0 This budget is not perfect.\u00a0 However, it is a needed start.\u00a0 I was sent to Congress to address our debt and deficit \u2013 the Ryan budget provides a framework to do just that.\u201d\nH.Con.Res. 96 passed the House of Representatives by a final vote of 219 to 205.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20140411045508/http://pearce.house.gov/press-release/pearce-supports-balanced-budget"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.2934640981256962, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
