Patrick Meehan (PA-07), the Kids First Research Act increases funding for research on pediatric diseases or disorders such as autism by cutting federal spending on partisan presidential nominating conventions.

“This legislation is a fine example of Congress making prudent choices about how it spends the taxpayers’ dollars,” said Rep. Meehan. “We’re reducing unnecessary spending on partisan political events and directing it to spending priorities – in this case, research to fight pediatric conditions like autism.”

“This means more lifesaving research that will bring us closer to understanding these conditions, and it means better outcomes for children that live with them. I applaud Leader Cantor for his effort on behalf of American children and I urge the Senate to act to follow suit.”

Meehan has long been an advocate for families with children coping with pediatric conditions like autism, helping to lead one of the first Congressional hearings on autism in more than a decade.
