Children and adults learn so much when they can see and touch the past. \u00a0Museums offer that unique learning experience.  \n\t\u00a0  \n\tNEH has been an outstanding steward of the relatively small amount of federal support it receives annually. \u00a0Between 1965 and 2009, NEH successfully leveraged more than $2 billion in non-federal support, including private and institutional contributions. \u00a0However, current demand for humanities project support far exceeds funding availability and non-federal support for the humanities has declined sharply in recent years, in part due to the current economic downturn. \u00a0Each year, as billions of dollars are rightfully invested in research and education in science and technology, the relative federal investment in the humanities falls further behind. \u00a0  \n\t\u00a0  \n\tWe are aware of the many difficult choices your Subcommittee faces in crafting its FY 2015 bill, but we believe that strong federal support for the humanities is needed now more than ever to preserve America\u2019s place as a world leader in education and innovation for all fields of learning and help provide our nation's citizenry and workforce with the foundation necessary to tackle the challenges of today's globalized world. \u00a0We appreciate your past support of NEH and strongly urge your support for this request. \u00a0\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20140822043849/http://shea-porter.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/shea-porter-tours-castle-in-the-clouds"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.0895200539380312, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
