Company officials have reassured it is part of their normal strategy.\n\n\t\u201cWe use a combination of contracts,\u201d said Jeri Matheney, Appalachian Power\u2019s communications director. \u201cWe get long-term, short-term and still end with spot coal. That\u2019s all we\u2019re doing, looking for proposals for spot coal.\u201d\n\n\tThere is growing unrest in the coal industry as low-cost natural gas and other fuels become attractive alternatives amid proposed regulations from federal regulators.
