That\u2019s unfair.\u201d\nAccording to the Congressional Budget Office, this policy will cause the average family to pay more than $300 in higher premiums next year alone and an average of $5,080 more over the next decade.\nRight now, there is strong bipartisan support for legislation in the House that would repeal the Health Insurance Tax.\u00a0 There are 228 cosponsors from both sides of the aisle for H.R. 763 including 35 of 37 Republican freshmen.\n\u00a0\u201cCommon sense dictates that taxing health insurance won\u2019t improve its quality or make it more affordable,\u201d the signers state in the letter. \u201cIt just will make it more expensive, especially for those on fixed incomes who least can afford it.\u201d\nThe letter urges House Republican Leadership to include repeal of the HIT in any tax reform proposals considered in the House.\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20140912142746/http://messer.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/congressman-luke-messer-urges-leadership-to-repeal-the-health-insuranc-0"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.579842995852232, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
