The Department of Defense has asked Congress to redirect $500 million for the efforts.
“There is no doubt that the Ebola virus outbreak is tragic. Our prayers are with the communities in West Africa that have been stricken with this deadly crisis. The U.S. should take part in this critical effort to help the people of West Africa at this time,” said Congressman Steve Pearce. “However, President Obama is asking for military assistance and funds to assist in a situation for which he has not clearly outlined a long-term strategy. The U.S. should be a partner in the response to this crisis, but the U.N. should take the lead. The American people have lost trust in the Administration’s ability to stand by its word, in light of the number of military missions that have not seen completion under this president’s leadership.”", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://web.archive.org/web/20140918232220/http://pearce.house.gov/press-release/president-needs-clear-long-term-strategy-request-ebola-health-situation
