Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, chastised Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius during questioning at today\u2019s Health Subcommittee hearing entitled \u201cPPACA Implementation Failures: What\u2019s Next?\u201d\u00a0 The hearing focused on problems with the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).\u00a0\n\u201cOur very first concern is with the people we represent,\u201d stated Whitfield during his questioning.\u00a0 \u201cSome people said we are simply trying to put up obstacles to the successful implementation of this Act, and I can tell you that we are here because our constituents are genuinely concerned and upset about what is going on.\u201d\nSince the October 1 start of open enrollment, major media outlets have described the launch of PPACA\u2019s exchange program as \u201cplagued by problems\u201d and \u201cnothing short of disastrous.\u201d\u00a0 The launch of the exchanges has been fraught with significant problems that are leading to major delays for Americans attempting to shop for health coverage.\n\u201cThe President said that everyone\u2019s premiums would decrease, the President said people would be able to keep their plan, and the President said people would be able to keep their doctor.\u00a0 It is turning out that is simply not the case and so there is a lot of frustration and we are upset about it,\u201d concluded Whitfield.\nFor more information on today\u2019s hearing, please visit the Energy and Commerce Committee website.\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20140919154143/http://whitfield.house.gov/press-release/whitfield-chastises-health-secretary-botched-obamacare-rollout"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5777470543980598, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
