Congresswoman Sinema met with the company this month through her\u00a0Kyrsten Means Business\u00a0Program.\u00a0\n U.S. Navy Awards Sundt Construction $26.3 Million\u00a0\nTempe-based Sundt Construction was awarded $26.3M to renovate and reinforce military barracks in Norfolk, VA. \nASU Receives $11.5 Million Teacher Quality Partnership Grant for STEM Education\u00a0\nASU received this five-year,\u00a0$11.5 million Teacher Quality Partnership (TQP) grant\u00a0to improve teacher preparation programs, and to ready educators to become strong STEM teachers for our elementary and secondary schools.The Teacher Quality Partnership grant provides ASU with additional resources to enhance its teacher preparation program. Under the grant, ASU will train and support teachers over the next five years in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields to better prepare Arizona students.\nHealth Services Advisory Group Wins $7 Million CMS Contract \nThis is a banner year for Health Services Advisory Group. In addition to winning a 4-state contract from CMS this summer, the group recently won the contract for the U.S. Virgin Islands. HSAG will provide Medicaid and Medicare organizational plans and funding allocation advice to the U.S. Virgin Islands for five years.\n \nASU Receives $4 Million First in the World Grant\u00a0\nASU received a $3,999,955 grant\u00a0to develop innovative strategies allowing first-generation students to pursue and complete postsecondary education. The announcement follows Sinema\u2019s\u00a0July letter\u00a0in support of ASU\u2019s request for the grant.\nAZ Department of Education Receives $577,000 Emergency Management Grant\nThe AZ Department of Education received this grant for their School Emergency Management Program. With these funds, the AZ Department of Education will strengthen its ability to assist Local Educational Agencies by providing training in the development and implementation of an effective school operations emergency plan.\nCity of Phoenix Receives\u00a0$1.6 Million TIGER Grant\nThis grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will fund an environmental assessment and conceptual engineering for the 5\u2013mile South Central Transit Corridor from Central Avenue in Phoenix to Baseline Rd. The TIGER Grant will\u00a0advance a proposed multi-modal improvements project that includes light rail.\nCity of Mesa Housing Authority Receives $440,000 from HUD for Veterans\nMesa received funding from HUD for the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Tenant Based Voucher program. VASH vouchers enable homeless veterans and their families to access affordable existing housing of their choice, in addition to an array of supportive services provided by the VA.\nHHS Grant Awards\n$2.3 Million Awarded to ASU\u2019s Dr. Sarah Stabenfeldt for Traumatic Brain Injury Research\nDr. Sarah Stabenfeldt received this NIH Director\u2019s New Innovator Award for her ongoing work studying traumatic brain injury. Dr. Stabenfeldt\u2019s research focuses on developing a platform to first detect and then treat traumatic brain injury via recognition and targeting of changes that occur at the molecular level after injury. \u00a0NIH New Innovator Awards are given to creative new investigators with new research modalities.\u00a0\n$4.4 Million Awarded to City of Mesa Fire &amp; Medical Department for Community Care Response Initiative\nThe Center for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services awarded additional funding for Mesa\u2019s highly acclaimed and anticipated Community Care Response Initiative. The goal of the program is to provide seniors and other high-risk groups with direct medical services through the new mobile care units. The goal of the Community Care Response Initiative is to reduce the number of trips to emergency rooms and provide direct aid to the most vulnerable constituents of Mesa. \u00a0\u00a0\nArizona Alliance of Community Health Center Receives $1.3 Million\nArizona Alliance of Community Health Centers (AACHC) received $1,386,054 to help consumers navigate through their options within the Health Insurance Exchange.AACHC received a Navigator Grant in 2013, and this new funding enables them to continue their outreach and consumer education efforts.\n$1.2 Million Awarded to Arizona Department of Insurance for Health Insurance Premium Review\nThe Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services awarded this grant to the Arizona Department of Insurance to assist with health insurance rate reviewing and to increase transparency in the pricing of medical services.\n$182,000 Awarded to ASU\u2019s Dr. Marco Santello for Artificial Hand Research\nDr. Santello\u2019s funding from the National Institute of Child Health &amp; Human Development supports his research into soft-synergy applications for artificial hands. He hopes to adapt his findings to a new artificial hand for children.\u00a0\n$145,000 Awarded to AZ Department of Health Services for Health Impact Assessments\nThis 3-year funding award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will help the AZ Department of Health Services develop the AZHealthy Communities Program and to conduct health impact assessments. The findings will aid developers in planning healthier communities and buildings.\u00a0Other Grants\n$205,000 awarded to ASU\u2019s Dr. Adele Grando for I DECIDE Program\n$194,000 awarded\u00a0to ASU\u2019s Marco Mangone for Breast Cancer Research\n$150,000 awarded\u00a0to Sonoran Biosciences, Inc. for Arthritis Research\nDepartment of Justice Grants\u00a0\nAZ DPS Receives $9.3 Million for Crime Victims  The AZ Department of Public Safety will use this grant to enhance crime victim services in Arizona.\u00a0Click here to learn more about the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Crime Victim Services. \n$840,807 Awarded to ASU for Research on Gangs and Gang Violence\nThe National Institute of Justice awarded ASU with funding to study the implications of gang membership on incarcerated individuals. The effectiveness of prevention, intervention and deterrence are also a focus of this study.\n$400,000 Awarded to Southwest Indigenous Women\u2019s Coalition to Increase Awareness of Domestic Violence\nThe Office on Violence Against Women awarded these funds to promote awareness and education about Violence Against Women within the tribes of Arizona.\n $374,408 Awarded to AZ Criminal Justice Commission to Combat Prescription Drug Abuse\nThese funds are for the Harold Rogers Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, a data-driven multi-disciplinary approach to reducing prescription drug abuse.\nOther Grants \n$666,268 awarded\u00a0to ASU to Study Correctional Officers\u2019 Stress Levels\n$600,000 awarded\u00a0to Unified Solutions Tribal Community Development Group to Support Crime Victims\n$549,000 awarded\u00a0to AZ Criminal Justice Commission for Criminal History Improvement Program\n$500,000 awarded\u00a0to the AZ Criminal Justice Commission for Project Safe Neighborhoods Program\n$462,226 awarded\u00a0to ASU for Advanced Forensic Science Development\n$148,405 awarded\u00a0to AZ Criminal Justice Commission for Forensic Science Improvements \n$109,190 awarded\u00a0to City of Mesa for DNA Processing \u00a0 \u00a0\n$48,000 awarded\u00a0to AZ Criminal Justice Commission for Data Analysis\n$32,000 awarded\u00a0to ASU for Research Fellowship Grant focusing on Victimization\n$40,000 awarded\u00a0to ASU for Criminal Data Analysis\nGrant Opportunities\nSBA\u2019s Boots to Business Training Program for Veterans\nThe US Small Business Administration, in partnership with America\u2019s Small Business Development Centers, SCORE and the Association of Women\u2019s Business Centers (AWBC), is providing $1.12 million in funding to sustain and expand the resource partners\u2019 participation in SBA\u2019s Boots to Business Program. The program provides training to transitioning service members and their spouses pursuing business ownership after their military service has ended.\u00a0Click here\u00a0for additional information about this training program.\n NEA Now Accepting Applications for OUR TOWN Grants \nEach year, the National Endowment for the Arts provides a limited number of grants for creative placemaking projects that enhance the livability of communities and help transform them into lively, beautiful, and resilient places with the arts at their core. OUR TOWN prioritizes partnerships between arts organizations and government, private, and nonprofit organizations to achieve livability goals for communities. Our Town offers support for projects in two areas: Arts Engagement, Cultural Planning, and Design Projects that represent the distinct character and quality of their communities and\u00a0Projects that Build Knowledge About Creative Placemaking. Roosevelt Row and the City of Phoenix recently received OUR TOWN Grants. Additional information can be found here.\nWhole Kids Foundation School Garden Grant\u00a0 The School Garden Grant program provides a $2,000 monetary grant to a K-12 school, or a non-profit working in partnership with a K-12 school, to support a new or existing edible garden on school grounds.
