Only 287 public and 50 private schools were named Blue Ribbon Schools this year, and during the past 32 years, fewer than 7,900 schools have earned this distinction.
“This award is an impressive testament to the dedication of the faculty and staff, students and families, and their community,” said Congresswoman Shea-Porter. “The success of the students proves that young minds thrive best when they have a supportive environment at home, in school, and in their community.”
Representatives from the National Blue Ribbon Schools will be invited to a recognition ceremony November 11th-12th in Washington, D.C. In addition, the schools will receive a plaque and a National Blue Ribbon School flag.
Background:
From http://nationalblueribbonschools.ed.gov/awardwinners/14nh101pu_hampton_centre_school.html:
Centre School in Hampton, NH, has the distinction of being the first public school in the state of New Hampshire supported by taxation. Its doors opened on May 31, 1649. Its vision statement at that time read, "to teach and instruct all the children of or belonging to our Towne, both mayle and femaile, which are capable of learning to write and read and cast accounts". Centre school’s present day vision for learners bears some resemblance to that of 1649. The school takes responsibility to provide students with the fundamental tools for learning and to instill behaviors that will become the cornerstones of future learning. This mission requires vigilance to ensure that all students are both acclimated to our school environment and secure in their learning. At Centre School, teachers foster a climate that encourages both colleagues and students to be risk takers. Staff learns from and supports one another and takes pride in delivering a curriculum that is rigorous, research based, engaging, and has real-life application. Centre School is a community of learners, both children and adults. This community celebrates the uniqueness of each individual. It nurtures the expression of individual talents and the understanding of the role and responsibilities of each individual in the family and in the local community. Professionals, parents, children, and community members working together, creates an environment that promotes a positive self-image, a willingness to take risks, and an ability to communicate effectively. These are all essential ingredients for success in learning and life.
###", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://web.archive.org/web/20141010031415/http://shea-porter.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/shea-porter-congratulates-local-school-on-prestigious-national-blue
