Sensenbrenner", "S000244", "web.archive.org", null, null, "legacy", "Sensenbrenner Sends Letter to DEA, ICE Regarding Asset Forfeiture Program \n   \n    \n       \n      \n  \n    \n      f \n      t \n      #\n      e\n      \n      \n    \n    \n      \n        Washington,\n        Oct 16\n      \n       \n    \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n    \n      \n      \n      Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) today sent oversight letters to the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and to the Acting Director of the Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, requesting information on each agency\u2019s participation in the Department of Justice\u2019s asset forfeiture program, specifically their processes for administrative review of property seizures.\u00a0 The letters request answers to the following questions: \u2022\u00a0How many petitions does the DEA/ICE receive for the administrative pardon of property?  \n\u2022\u00a0How many petitions for the administrative pardon of property are granted?  \n\u2022\u00a0How many petitions does the DEA/ICE receive from individuals (as oppose to business or financial institutions) for the administrative pardon of property?  \n\u2022\u00a0How many of the petitions from individuals are granted?  \n\u2022\u00a0Please describe the methodology and procedures used by DEA/ICE to adjudicate civil forfeitures.  \n\u2022\u00a0Allowing attorneys for DEA/ICE to adjudicate the conduct of its own agents to determine whether money should flow directly to the coffers of DEA/ICE would seem to present inherent conflicts of interests.\u00a0 DEA/ICE leadership will have an interest in seeing the petitions denied because it increases their budget.\u00a0 Meanwhile, agents will see denials as a condemnation of their conduct in the field.\u00a0 Given these inherent conflicts, what procedures and protections exist to ensure fair adjudications of the claims and to protect against conflicts of interests?\u00a0   \n    \n  \n  \n  \n    \n      f \n      t \n      #\n      e", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20141115200712/http://sensenbrenner.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=397652"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 2.124456688761711, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
