Sensenbrenner", "S000244", "web.archive.org", null, null, "legacy", "Sensenbrenner Urges CDC to Focus on Core Priorities \n   \n    \n       \n      \n  \n    \n      f \n      t \n      #\n      e\n      \n      \n    \n    \n      \n        Washington,\n        Oct 16\n      \n       \n    \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n    \n      \n      \n      In November, 2013 Congressman Sensenbrenner, along with 11 of his House colleagues including Congressmen Duffy, Petri and Ribble, sent a letter to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) encouraging it to focus on critical issues like disease outbreaks.\u00a0 The CDC had recently launched a campaign to pressure states to adopt motorcycle helmet laws.\u00a0 The CDC has also spent money to study seatbelt use, bike lanes and farmer\u2019s markets. \u00a0In response, the CDC equated motorcycle safety with its other priorities, writing, \u201cCDC approaches motorcycle safety in the same manner as other public health issues, such as heart disease, cancer, and asthma.\u201d \u00a0 Congressman Sensenbrenner:\u00a0 \u201cIn times of crisis, we see how the cost of mission creep and government expansion can be measured in lives as well as money.\u00a0 Last year, I urged the CDC to focus on its core priorities instead of ancillary issues like seatbelt use, motorcycle safety, bike lanes and farmer\u2019s markets.  \u201cThe CDC has just now released protocols for healthcare workers to minimize the risk of infection from communicable diseases.\u00a0 This should have been done years ago\u2014before two healthcare workers were infected with Ebola.\u00a0 It is past time for the CDC to prioritize its mission and spending.\u201d\n    \n  \n  \n  \n    \n      f \n      t \n      #\n      e", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://web.archive.org/web/20141115200713/http://sensenbrenner.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=397657"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.005473081022501, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
