Nearly 100 people in New Mexico have been killed in drunken driving accidents so far this year. Udall urged New Mexicans to spread the word about steps everyone can take to make the roads safer. Udall is working with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to pass critical measures to combat drunken driving, and last week, he joined with MADD and Bernalillo County Sheriff Manny Gonzales to kick off the holiday season anti-drunken driving campaign. MADD is hosting the first National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Drunk and Drugged Driving on Dec. 3, and Udall is introducing a resolution in the Senate to mark the day of remembrance.  As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Senate Commerce Committee, which oversees the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, Udall is fighting for funding to support technology called the Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety (DADSS) that could keep drunken drivers off the road and help save 59,000 lives over 15 years.
