He issued the following state after Thursday's vote:\n\n\"These tax cuts are a benefit to American families and workers who labor too long and too hard to give the federal government anymore of their tax dollars,\" Westerman said. \"These tax cuts will put more money in the hands of everyday Americans, money that can be invested in small businesses, invested for children's educations, saved for retirement, used for a down payment on a home, and more. Constituents in Arkansas deserve this tax cut and I am proud to have voted in favor of workers and families across the Fourth District of Arkansas.\"\n\nHighlights of the tax cuts \u2013 known as the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act \u2013 include the following:\n\nA permanent extension and modification of deduction for certain expenses of elementary and secondary school teachers indexed to inflation in future years;\n\nExtension of deduction of State and local general sales taxes;\n\nExtension and modification of special rule for contributions for capital gain real property made for conservation purposes;\n\nExtension and modification of research credit;\n\nImproves to section 529 Education Savings Plans; and\n\nAnd permits rollovers from other retirement plans into SIMPLE IRA accounts.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T20:33:33Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://westerman.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/westerman-votes-tax-cuts"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.8456350080668926, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
