This legislation aims to prevent Members of Congress from using their positions and nonpublic information to benefit financially from purchases or sales made on the U.S. stock market. The legislation also includes measures to strengthen voter ID laws nationwide.\n\nCongressman Womack said, \u201cOur government is built on a foundation of mutual trust. Americans should be able to trust that their elected officials in Congress have their constituents\u2019 best interests at heart\u2014not their own bank accounts. Likewise, citizens should be able to trust that their government conducts free and fair elections. The Stop Insider Trading Act strengthens that trust with guardrails that improve transparency, accountability, and integrity in government.\u201d\n\nBill highlights:\n\nPrevents insider trading in Congress by:\n\nRequiring Members of Congress, as well as their spouses and dependents to report most purchases or sales of a stock between 7-14 days prior to the sale or purchase.\n\nProtects election integrity by:\n\nRequiring a potential voter to present a valid photo I.D., such as\u2014but not limited to\u2014a driver\u2019s license, to vote in person.\n\nRequiring a potential voter to submit a copy of a valid photo I.D., such as\u2014but not limited to\u2014a driver\u2019s license, to vote by mail.\n\nThe bill text is available HERE.\n\nCongressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas\u2019s Third Congressional District since 2011.
