All the while, the assets continue to go up in value without paying a dime in tax.\n\nDie: When the individual dies, their assets are passed to their children or other beneficiaries, often entirely tax-free, and the cycle continues.\n\nThe proposal would only apply to taxpayers with more than $1 billion in assets, or more than $100 million in income for three consecutive years.\n\nThe legislation was led by U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) and also co-sponsored by Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Bob Casey (D-PA), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), John Fetterman (D-PA), Tina Smith (D-MN), Peter Welch (D-VT), Jack Reed (D-RI), and Ed Markey (D-MA).\n\nA one-pager of the legislation is available here and a section-by-section summary of the legislation is available here.\n\nFull text of the legislation is available here.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T01:01:09Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.baldwin.senate.gov/news/press-releases/senator-baldwin-introduces-bill-to-ensure-billionaires-pay-their-fair-share-in-taxes"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.5544649213552475, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
