Republicans, who control the White House, the Senate, and the House, have not only refused to listen to families who need some breathing room, but they also have abandoned working with Democrats to do right by the American people. I\u2019m at the table and ready to negotiate a solution that keeps the government open and makes good on Donald Trump\u2019s promise to keep costs down for Americans \u2013 but my Republican colleagues are nowhere to be seen,\u201d said Senator Baldwin. \u201cThis is Donald Trump\u2019s government, and this is Donald Trump\u2019s shutdown.\u201d\n\nSenator Baldwin voted to keep the government open, reverse Republicans\u2019 cuts to Medicaid, and extend the Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits. Every single Senate Republican voted against the measure.\n\nOn Tuesday, Senator Baldwin hosted a virtual press conference with two Wisconsin constituents who shared how expiring tax credits for their Affordable Care Act marketplace coverage will jack up their costs and make it harder for them to make ends meet. Unless Republicans act now, 270,000 Wisconsinites could see their health care premiums double in 2026. Senator Baldwin leads legislation to make these tax breaks permanent.\n\nLast week, Senator Baldwin made four stops in Weston, Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Mount Horeb to highlight the need to extend these tax breaks.
