WASHINGTON \r\nToday, U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.) released the following statement after\r\nparticipating remotely in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Bannister Federal\r\nComplex redevelopment project in Kansas City, Mo.: The start of new construction at the former Bannister\r\nFederal Complex is an exciting milestone years in the making, said Blunt.\r\nThis project is transforming a historic site into a modernized manufacturing\r\nand distribution hub, which will support new permanent jobs and encourage\r\nadditional economic development in the Kansas City region. I appreciate the\r\ngreat work Bannister Transformation &amp; Development, and all of their\r\ndedicated employees, have done to reach this point. I was proud to support this\r\nproject and I will continue working with local, state, and federal officials as\r\nthe redevelopment moves forward. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Blunt\r\nhas led efforts in Congress to secure federal support for the redevelopment\r\nproject. Blunt worked to include\r\n$200 million in the FY2017 funding bill for the Bannister Road Disposition, the\r\nfinal appropriation needed to allow the site to move forward on transfer,\r\ndemolition, and remediation. In 2013, Congress passed and the president signed\r\ninto law Blunt's amendment\r\nthat cleared the way for the redevelopment process. Blunt visited the site in 2019\r\nand 2018\r\nto receive updates on the project. On July 4th, 1942, Senator Harry S. Truman broke ground on\r\nthe Pratt and Whitney Plant, a manufacturing site for aircraft engines during\r\nWorld War II. The site later became the Bannister Federal Complex, which\r\nsupported U.S. national security efforts for more than 70 years. The project to\r\nrestore the historic site to a productive part of the Kansas City region was a\r\ncollaborative effort between federal and state agencies and private\r\ndevelopment.", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.blunt.senate.gov/news/press-releases/blunt-start-of-new-construction-at-former-bannister-federal-complex-an-exciting-milestone"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.4684717170894146, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
