Booker", "B001288", "www.booker.senate.gov", "booker", "https://www.booker.senate.gov/news/press", "scraper", "NEWARK, N.J. \u2014 Over seven days, U.S. Senator Cory Booker visited all 21 of New Jersey\u2019s counties, hearing from an array of constituents\u2014educators, veterans, incarcerated people, farmers, firefighters, seniors, small-business owners, and more\u2014as he highlighted his efforts to invest in and expand justice for New Jerseyans.\n\nBooker\u2019s annual summer road trips began when he was first elected to the U.S. Senate 10 years ago and are aimed at discussing the Garden State\u2019s priorities, shine a light on the everyday New Jerseyans serving others, and show the senator\u2019s support for local organizations, businesses, and industries.\n\n\u201cI\u2019m filled with gratitude and Jersey pride as I end my 2023 summer road trip,\u201d said Senator Booker. \u201cEvery year, I learn more about our state and spend time with extraordinary New Jerseyans\u2014humble heroes in our midst who serve their communities. It\u2019s an honor to represent New Jersey in the U.S. Senate, and my conversations over the past few days will stay with me as I continue to fight for our state in Washington.\u201d\n\nBooker began his road trip at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus. He announced legislation to combat the opioid epidemic by expanding access to drug test trips, affordable and effective lifesaving devices that prevent drug overdoses. Days later, he visited the Camden County Jail, a national model in expanding treatment for populations that are disproportionately affected by addiction and mental health issues, to discuss his legislation to provide comprehensive substance abuse treatment to people who are incarcerated.\n\nIn Newark, he hosted the Essex County Community Violence Intervention Summit with New Jersey\u2019s urban mayors to discuss the gun violence epidemic that continues to grip cities across the country and highlight community-based intervention solutions to tackle this crisis.
