Strengthening oversight, increasing transparency, and improving accountability at the Pentagon must be a priority, yet, inexplicably, Congress is unwilling to fulfill this obligation..

“The richest nation in the world can responsibly afford both a modern military that keeps us safe from threats, and vital domestic programs that help families get ahead. This shouldn’t be a choice between one or the other.

“Finally, it’s critical that this legislation authorizes programs and funding to support our international allies and partners during the upcoming fiscal year. However, this legislation is not enough. Congress must take action as soon as possible to provide the necessary emergency assistance to Ukraine and Israel while also providing necessary life-saving assistance to address increasing humanitarian suffering and crises around the world. Supporting the most vulnerable around the world and standing with our international partners is central to America’s national security interests.”", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-08T01:14:16Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://www.booker.senate.gov/news/press/booker-statement-on-fy-2024-national-defense-authorization-act-conference-report
