{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.boozman.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ContentRecord_id=8a888539-6135-47cd-a129-4902dc6242da", "Boozman Statement on Spending Bill Vote", "2014-12-13", "2014", "2014-12", "Republican", "House", "AR", "John Boozman", "B001236", "www.boozman.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "WASHINGTON \u2013 U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) today issued the following statement after Senate-passage of the H.R. 83, a bill that includes funding for 11 of the 12 annual Appropriations bills through the end of Fiscal Year 2015 (FY15) and provides temporary funding for the Department of Homeland Security to allow a Republican-led Senate to address President Obama\u2019s executive action on immigration in early 2015. \r\n\u201cIt's far from perfect, but the funding bill brings discretionary spending to its lowest level in almost a decade and has a number of provisions that adhere to our conservative principles. It dramatically cuts funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and reins in abuses like the agency\u2019s proposed \u2018waters of the United States\u2019 rule and its effort to ban lead ammunition and sinkers. The bill prevents bailouts of losses insurance companies incur as a result of Obamacare, protects free speech by cutting funds for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to prevent taxpayers from ideological targeting, protects jobs by limiting the negative effects of the Dodd-Frank law and requires the government to provide advanced funding for veterans disability benefits to ensure they get their earned benefits regardless of any future shutdowns.\r\nThis bill only funds the Department of Homeland Security through February setting up the opportunity for a Republican-controlled Senate to take action against the President's executive order on immigration early next year. I supported Senator Ted Cruz\u2019s efforts to force a vote on a measure preventing the President from moving forward with his actions, but Harry Reid\u2019s \u2018last stand\u2019 as Majority Leader was to protect President Obama and his abuses of power one final time. I am confident that under new leadership, the Senate will be able to take action against the President\u2019s overreach.\r\nFinally, the process has been broken for quite some time and this bill is a reflection of what needs to change when we take control of the Senate.
