{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.boozman.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=7FB412FF-C2D2-46DF-B423-8852E2AE56A8", "Boozman, Cortez Masto Team Up to Improve Home Accessibility for Disabled Veterans", "2023-11-09", "2023", "2023-11", "Republican", "Senate", "AR", "John Boozman", "B001236", "www.boozman.senate.gov", "boozman", "https://www.boozman.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases", "scraper", "WASHINGTON \u2013 U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR), a senior member of the Senate Veterans\u2019 Affairs Committee, joined Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) to help disabled veterans and their families make accessibility and safety improvements to their homes with the introduction of the Autonomy for Disabled Veterans Act.\n\nThe Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Home Improvements and Structural Alterations program (HISA) offers funds to help eligible disabled veterans with service-related medical issues make alterations to their homes including accessible bathrooms, widen their doors, install wheelchair ramps and grab bars and handrails.\n\nThe Autonomy for Disabled Veterans Act would increase funding from its current ceiling of $6,800 to $9,000 for veterans with disabilities.\n\n\u201cWith rising costs of construction materials, it\u2019s necessary to increase funds available for veterans to adapt their homes. This legislation will help enhance their quality of life and help them live more independently. I\u2019m pleased to champion improvements to services and benefits for the men and women who served in our nation\u2019s uniform,\u201d Boozman said.\n\n\u201cNevada veterans have sacrificed so much for our country, and we must ensure they can access the necessary resources to have more freedom in their homes,\u201d said Cortez Masto. \u201cThis bipartisan legislation will help them afford the home improvements they need to enhance their accessibility and safety. I will continue working across the aisle to stand up for our veterans and their families.\u201d\n\nThe Autonomy for Disabled Veterans Act is endorsed by Wounded Warrior Project, The Disabled American Veterans and Paralyzed Veterans of America.\n\n\u201cVA\u2019s Home Improvements and Structural Alterations grant program provides medically necessary improvements and structural alterations to a veteran or service member\u2019s primary residence. However, years of inattention have diminished the effectiveness of this program, and it is long past time to update grant rates to realistic levels.
