The legislation would increase penalties for criminals who target law enforcement \u2013 creating a new federal crime for killing, attempting to kill or conspiring to kill a federal law enforcement officer, federally funded public safety officer or federal judge \u2013 and provide new tools for officers to protect themselves.\n\n\u201cCriminals who feel emboldened to attack the courageous men and women protecting and serving their fellow Americans must be held accountable,\u201d said Boozman. \u201cThis bill does just that by strengthening and enforcing the legal penalties they face after targeting law enforcement officers with violence.
