Brown Demands Senate Honor its Promise to Retired Mineworkers and their Families \n                    Without a change to current law, 16,300 of the country\u2019s retired coal miners will lose their healthcare on December 31, 2016. More than 120,000 miners\u2019 pension benefits will be at risk in the long-term. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) took to the Senate floor to demand the Senate protect the healthcare and pensions of these miners and their families. \nBrown has announced he will block all attempts to pass legislation by unanimous consent in the Senate until the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) healthcare is adequately addressed to give miners long-term certainty.
