Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and a group of his bipartisan colleagues introduced a Senate Resolution recognizing the 69th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, the declaration set forth the foundation for which all countries should strive to protect the rights of individuals. The resolution also recognizes December 10 as Human Rights Day in the U.S. and encourages every country to protect human rights as rule of law.\r\n\u201cProtecting human rights is one of the most important things we can do as a nation,\u201d Brown said. \u201cWe should all strive to protect the rights of others, prevent human rights abuses at home and internationally and promote peace.\u201d\r\nBrown has led a number of efforts to protect human rights in the U.S. and abroad.\r\nLast month, Brown introduced the \u201cOtto Warmbier Banking Restrictions Involving North Korea Act of 2017,\u201d named in honor of Ohioan Otto Warmbier, who lost his life after suffering at the hands of North Korea\u2019s human rights abuses. Brown\u2019s legislation would strengthen and expand current U.S. sanctions on North Korea.\r\nBrown has also led efforts to combat human trafficking, introducing a bill in June to support survivors of human trafficking and help local, state and national law enforcement on the front lines of the fight against trafficking. The Senate passed Brown\u2019s bill in September. Brown is also supporting Sen.
