Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement tonight after voting against a continuing resolution that failed to provide a meaningful solution for coal miners and widows whose retirement and healthcare are set to run out. Brown has called for Congress to stay through Christmas and keep working for a solution.
“Washington has bailed out banks and billionaires, but now that coal miners and widows need healthcare, Congress is taking a vacation,” Brown said. “These hard-working Americans gave their lungs and their backs to power this country. They paid for their healthcare and they were promised it would be there for them. Our refusal to keep that promise is shameful – it’s everything that’s wrong with Washington and it’s why I cannot support this bill.”
###

     Press Contact
     Jenny Donohue/Rachel Petri
202-224-3978", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at
url
https://www.brown.senate.gov/newsroom/press/release/brown-washington-bailed-out-billionaires-but-not-hard-working-americans
