Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Rob Portman (R-OH) today announced that President Obama signed into law the FY 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes their amendment to prioritize C-130 upgrades needed at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station (YARS). The law will encourage the Air Force to act on these upgrades by requiring it to report on how it will prioritize upgrades from C-130H aircrafts to new C-130J units, which YARS needs for its special mission. Brown and Portman have been working to urge the Air Force to replace the 910th Airlift Wing\u2019s current fleet with the new C-130J to ensure the Wing can complete its missions safely.\r\n\u201cThese updates are key to maintaining Mahoning Valley jobs and supporting the ongoing missions performed by the men and women at Youngstown Air Reserve Station,\u201d said Brown. \u201cWe\u2019ve been pushing for modernization of this fleet for years, and this law will call on the Air Force to get to work updating these aircraft so YARS can continue its critical missions.\u201d\r\n\u201cThe Youngstown Air Reserve station is a model for other Air Reserve Stations throughout the country.
