This must stop. No city, state, territory, or federal district is above the law. I am proud to join Senator Britt and my colleagues in introducing commonsense, bipartisan legislation to strengthen election integrity,\u201d said Senator Budd.\n\n\u201cThis isn\u2019t just about local school boards or fixing potholes. This is a slap in the face to every American citizen, whether they live in D.C. or not, who should be the only voters deciding who represents them in every election and at every level of government. City Council passed a law allowing noncitizens to vote in local elections. Due to this change, illegal aliens and foreign embassy staff have been given as much say as American citizens over who leads the nation\u2019s capital in elections, including for Mayor, Attorney General, and City Council members.\n\nSurveys repeatedly show an overwhelming majority of Americans\u2014between 85 to 90 percent\u2014support protecting the sanctity of our elections by allowing only U.S. citizens to participate in them.\n\nIn recent years, cities in Maryland, Vermont, and New York have also passed measures allowing noncitizens to vote in local elections.\n\n###", 1, "2026-03-30T01:40:41Z", "2026-04-06T19:02:47Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.budd.senate.gov/2025/08/06/budd-joins-britt-colleagues-in-effort-to-ban-noncitizens-from-voting-in-d-c-elections/"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.542675843462348, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
