Introduced\r\nin the 113th Congress in February, this bill would provide an\r\nimproved quality of life for individuals with disabilities through tax-free\r\nsavings accounts.\r\n\r\n\r\n\"The\r\nABLE Act is a commonsense piece of legislation that allows families of disabled\r\nchildren to have the same access to tax preferred savings accounts as the\r\nparents of college-bound kids,\" Senator Burr said. \"I am very\r\nexcited that we now have 60 Senators on board and can hopefully expect swift\r\nmovement on the Senate floor to send this bill to the President.\"\r\n\r\n\r\n\"This\r\nis a significant step forward for the ABLE Act and for the families of children\r\nwith disabilities,\" Senator Casey said. \"Now that this bill has 60\r\ncosponsors, I'm urging the Senate to take action on it in the new year. The\r\nfact that only 6 bills in all of Congress have this many cosponsors is a sign\r\nof the overwhelming support for this effort to make a major difference in the\r\nlives of these families.\"\r\n\r\n\r\nThe\r\nlegislation would amend Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Service Code to\r\n1986 to allow use of tax-free savings accounts for individuals with\r\ndisabilities. The bill, first introduced in 2006, would ease financial strains\r\nfaced by individuals with disabilities by making tax-free savings accounts\r\navailable to cover qualified expenses such as education, housing, medical, and\r\ntransportation. The bill would supplement, but not supplant, benefits provided\r\nthrough private insurance, the Medicaid program, the beneficiary's employment,\r\nand other sources.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\n\t  \n\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t\n\t \n\t\t\n\t\t\tPrint\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tEmail\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\tTweet\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t \n\t\n\t\n\n\t\n    \n    \n    \n    \n    \t\n    \t\n\t    \t  \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tPrevious Article\n\t\t    \n\t\t    \n\t\t    \tNext Article", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.burr.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=PressOffice.PressReleases&Type=Press Release&ContentRecord_id=80abfdd9-9c79-f9ec-1506-324ed64ea4e0"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 1.447694143280387, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
