U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, today announced $3,258,095 for several fire departments in West Virginia through the U.S. Department of Homeland Securitys (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Funding comes through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program and will support the purchase of equipment and other appurtenances.\nEvery day, career and volunteer firefighters across West Virginia risk their own safety to respond to emergencies, Senator Capito said. From serving on the front lines of the opioid epidemic to fighting fires, these men and women save lives and perform an important service to West Virginians. As the chairman of the Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, I will continue to ensure first responders have the resources they need to safely serve their communities.\nIndividual awards listed below:\r\n \r\n$885,910  Montgomery Fire Department\r\n$504,574  Teays Valley Fire Department\r\n$439,862  Winfield Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$204,000  Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$176,810  Slanesville Volunteer Fire Company\r\n$168,096  Augusta Volunteer Fire Company\r\n$144,762  Independent Fire Company\r\n$125,715  Fairlea Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$99,750  Sissonville Fire Department\r\n$82,667  Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$61,275  Prichard Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$60,267  Beech Creek Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$59,363  Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$53,048  Northfork Community Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$47,496  Culloden Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$46,153  New Martinsville Fire Department\r\n$36,667  McKinleyville Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$30,688  Henlawson Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$19,048  Mineral Wells Volunteer Fire Department\r\n$6,953  Romney Fire Company\r\n$4,248  Saint Albans Fire Department\r\n$743  Whitmer Volunteer Fire Department\r\n \r\n# # #", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.capito.senate.gov/news/press-releases/capito-announces-32-million-for-west-virginia-fire-departments"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.9859222918748856, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
