U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today issued the following statement after being briefed on and reviewing a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) supplemental background investigation file related to the nomination of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh:\nAfter careful consideration and having reviewed the facts presented, as well as the supplemental FBI file, I plan to vote to confirm Judge Kavanaugh. Since President Trump announced his nomination, Ive been consistently impressed with Judge Kavanaughs commitment to upholding the Constitution as written; respecting the rule of law; and being a good husband, father, and public servant. Thats why I have been supportive of him throughout the confirmation process and why he continues to have my support. I also said from the beginning that Dr. Fords allegations should be taken seriously, as should any allegation of sexual assault, and I believe Chairman Grassley and his staff on the Judiciary Committee have investigated and addressed them fairly and transparently. This is not a decision I took lightly, but it is one I believe in strongly.\r\n# # #", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.capito.senate.gov/news/press-releases/capito-remains-supportive-of-kavanaugh-nomination-will-vote-to-confirm"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.7471172139048576, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
