{"database": "press", "table": "releases", "rows": [["https://www.casey.senate.gov/newsroom/blog/human-rights-in-iran", "Human Rights in Iran", "2014-10-27", "2014", "2014-10", "Democrat", "House", "PA", "Bob Casey", "C001070", "www.casey.senate.gov", null, null, "legacy", "Monday, October 27, 2014\n\t\t\t\t Human Rights in Iran \n\t\t\t\t\n                        by Bob Casey \n                        \n                 \n\t\n\t            \n\t                \n\t                    \n\t                        \n\t                    \n\t                \n\t            \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t  \t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\t\tLast week, Iranian citizens took to the streets of Isfahan to protest a recent spate of violent acid attacks against women.\u00a0 Holding placards showing their solidarity with the victims, the peaceful protestors called for Iranian authorities to hold the attackers accountable.\r\nWe know that these kind of egregious attacks happen against women around the world, and I have spoken out before about incidents in Afghanistan and Pakistan.\u00a0 Women are often the drivers of economic growth and cultural change, but they are also often the targets of horrible violence.\r\nWhat is especially troubling about the Isfahan attacks is that they follow the passage of a new law in Iranian parliament, which is reportedly \u201cdesigned to protect those who correct people acting in an un-Islamic way.\u201d\u00a0 It is the women, the survivors, who should be protected, not their attackers.\r\nEven as the Administration continues to negotiate with the Iranian regime on nuclear issues, we cannot lose sight of the regime\u2019s egregious human rights record.\u00a0 The Iranian government must take action \u2013 at both the local and federal levels \u2013 to hold accountable those hardliners who perpetrated these attacks and to reverse the legislative framework that protects these criminals.\n\t\t\t\t\n                    \n    \n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t\n                    \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTags:\n                            \n                                \n                                Afghanistan,\u00a0\n                            \n                                \n                                Human Rights,\u00a0\n                            \n                                \n                                Iran,\u00a0\n                            \n                                \n                                Pakistan,\u00a0\n                            \n                                \n                                violence against women", 1, "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z", "2026-03-30T12:14:52Z"]], "columns": ["url", "title", "date", "year", "month", "party", "chamber", "state", "member_name", "bioguide_id", "domain", "scraper", "source", "date_source", "text", "has_text", "collected_at", "updated_at"], "primary_keys": ["url"], "primary_key_values": ["https://www.casey.senate.gov/newsroom/blog/human-rights-in-iran"], "units": {}, "query_ms": 0.8536619134247303, "source": "dwillis/congress-press", "source_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press", "license": "MIT", "license_url": "https://github.com/dwillis/congress-press/blob/main/LICENSE"}
